2012 Special Project: Stage Curtains & Projector

curtains1For 2012, the Alton R-IV Public Schools Foundation special project has been selected as new stage curtains in the high school, as well as a new projector and screen for both the elementary and high school.

The old curtains were damaged and soiled, and with the planned continual use by the Drama Department for their annual musical, as well as regular use by the Choir Department, new curtains were needed to showcase the many talented students of Alton Schools.

The new projectors and screens will be put to use at many school functions in the gymnasium and multipurpose building, such as graduation, school programs, assemblies, open house, and much more.

2010 Alumni of the Year

wallaceThe Foundation Board voted recently to establish an Alumni of the Year Award to recognize Alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their community and to the school, and have provided outstanding support for our students through the School Foundation.

Selected for the initial Award were Larry and Mildred Wallace (class of ’44 and ‘50) who opened Wallace & Owens Store in Alton in 1949. For 59 years they operated the store in Alton as well as stores in Thayer and six other locations in Missouri and Arkansas until 2008 when the stores were sold to Harp’s. Mildred established the first endowed scholarship with our Foundation in Memory of Larry which will provide a scholarship annually to an AHS Student. Thank you to the Wallace Family for providing the first of what we hope will be many endowed scholarships.

2010 Special Project: Electronic Sign

signFollowing a unanimous suggestion from the teachers, an electronic message board has been selected as the 2010 “special project” for the Alton R-IV Public Schools Foundation.

The sign will be used to recognize outstanding achievement and performance by students, classes, groups, and organizations, as well as to provide information about school activities to the community.  Money will only need to be raised for the installing, raising, and moving of the sign, as the digital part of the sign itself is being donated by Tracey Hollis Renfro (class of ’80), while the land for the sign is being donated by alumni Ron & Sheila Campbell.  Kristie Rackley (class of ’87), Frank Young (class of ’83), and Patrick Ledgerwood (class of ’99) have agreed to donate their services for the installation, with students and workers from the school helping with the landscaping.
